Dept prepares cabin trailers for food distribution to flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1, 2015:
The Social Welfare Department (JKM) will provide cabin trailers as a new initiative to distribute food to 1.6 million flood victims this year.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim announced the initiative after launching the World Disaster Report (WDR) 2015 at the Red Crescent head office here today.
She said JKM was providing five food depots for five flood-prone areas in Kedah, Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu and Muar in Johor.
“The food supply at these depots will be distributed to 5,152 flood relief centres nationwide.
“68 mini depots will also be prepared near these areas to ease food distribution to the victims,” she said.
Meanwhile efforts to care for the welfare of flood victims had been met by preparing 15,000 portable dividers for daily activities.
“With the dividers, they can complete their solat and care for their children and the elderly.
“Other facilities like mats and safety jackets will also be provided.”
About 22,000 volunteers are ready to assist with the floods this year.
